Pre-Orientation
Congratulations Buckeye!
Orientation mailings are sent on a rolling basis beginning in March. The earlier you pay your acceptance fee, the earlier you will receive an orientation packet. Students should follow the instructions in the orientation mailing to reserve their orientation session online.
What can I expect?
Orientation at Ohio State is a program that will allow you to experience what being a Buckeye is truly like. You will take part in an experience designed to acclimate you to the campus environment and provide you with the information necessary to be academically successful at the Ohio State University. It will familiarize you with campus as well as allow you to schedule your first-semester classes.
What to expect at transfer orientation
Information on transfer orientation
Business session: You will have a one-on-one meeting with an academic advisor to discuss major requirements, review transfer credits, and help guide you with course selection via Zoom. During course selection, you will be asked to review materials and choose courses, but you will not be expected to work alone. You will register for courses with your academic advisor. Our goal is to make the scheduling process as easy as possible.

What to expect at first-year orientation
First-year orientation is a two-day program. See a full orientation agenda.
Day One: You will learn about life at Ohio State and getting connected to campus.
Day Two: You will have a morning business information session where we will discuss major requirements, introduce degree planning, and help guide you with course selection. During course selection, you will be asked to review materials and choose courses, but you will not be expected to work alone. Academic advisors will be available to help you and answer your specific questions.
You will have a one-on-one meeting with an academic advisor to select your autumn courses. During this time, we will also review any AP, IB, or College Credit Plus courses you may have completed in high school. You will register for courses during this meeting. Our goal is to make the scheduling process as easy as possible.

Pre-Orientation Checklist

Go to http://buckeyelink.osu.edu and select “My To-Do List”
- Login with your OSU user ID and password
- Follow links to complete the Financial Responsibility Statement
Your academic advisor will email you regularly with updates and important information. Activate your OSU email account at my.osu.edu.
Please note: All orientation information details will be shared via email with students 1-2 weeks before their scheduled orientation program begins.
Entering freshmen are required to take the Math Placement Exam. You should complete this testing requirement no later than two days prior to orientation and can do so online. More information on placement test.
*Please note, you are not required to take the Math Placement Exam if:
- You have received transfer credit for a specific Ohio State math course (e.g., Math 1151 or 1131).
- You received a score of 3 or higher on the AB or BC Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus exam while in high school. Send an official copy of your AP test scores directly to Undergraduate Admissions to receive credit.
- You are a nontraditional student who is 23 years of age or older.

Send your official transcripts and AP scores to the OSU Undergraduate Admissions Office. Bring a copy of these to orientation to assist you with registering for classes.
At the college level, registration with disability services is the responsibility of the student. Once you have accepted admission to Ohio State, you may begin the registration process with Disability Services. Please review the Registration Process page for more information.
In college, Disability Services is not bound by your IEP/504 plan. The services you receive in college might be quite different from what you receive in high school. Your individualized accommodations at Disability Services will be based upon your self-report, supporting documentation, and history of accommodations.

What if I cannot attend?
If extenuating circumstances prevent you from attending orientation, contact the Orientation Office to schedule a referral orientation. Referral orientations occur via email at the end of summer after regular orientation sessions.
Referral orientation is not recommended as a substitute for traditional orientation; students are strongly encouraged to arrange your summer plans to accommodate orientation dates.
