Operations and Business Analytics


David Veech teaches operational excellence, lean systems, and lean leadership at the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University.  He is a retired Army officer having served over 20 years in uniform as an infantry officer and a member of the Army Acquisition Workforce.

David has written two best-selling books, taught at four universities, founded 2 successful international consulting firms that transformed organizations in dozens of industries and government agencies, co-founded a non-profit, owned a professional Ultimate Disk team, and founded a luxury travel agency (Clandestine Travel Ltd). 

When he is not teaching or creating new content, you can find him on the road, traveling and creating exceptional memories with his wife Mary, kids and grandkids, and  dogs. David loves orienteering, hiking, and photography.  David is working hard toward walking a half-marathon in every US state and territory and on every continent.


BUSOBA 4239 - Managing Process Improvement
Describes the basics of establishing and managing a Lean process in service, office and manufacturing operations. We will look at how we can add value in delivery of goods or services to the customer. Prereq: 2320 (330), 2321 (331), 3230 (630), and AcctMIS 2200 (211), 2300 (212), and BusMHR 2291 or 2292 (BusADM 499.01). Not open to students with credit for 739.
BUSOBA 7270 - MBOE Managing the Extended Value Stream
A focus on working across functions, companies and cultures and managing the Extended Value Stream. Prereq: Enrollment in MBOE. Not open to students with credit for 848.
BUSMHR 7800 - Advanced Topics in Management and Human Resources for EMBA
Advanced Topics in Management and HR for students in the Executive MBA Program. Prereq: Enrollment in EMBA program. Repeatable to a maximum of 15 cr hrs or 7 completions.
BUSOBA 3230 - Introduction to Operations Management: Improving Competitiveness in Organizations
Introduction to operations and supply chain management to improve manufacturing and service organizations; analyzing, controlling and improving resources and processes to increase productivity, generate value-added output and meet business goals. Prereq: Econ 2001.01, and 2002.01, and Stat 1430, or equiv.; or Math 1151 or 1154, and enrollment in BSET program. Not open to students with credit for 3130, or to students enrolled in UExp or PreBSBA-PR.
BUSOBA 7241 - Lean Enterprise Leadership
Introduces the skills and discipline needed to lead and learn in a continuous improvement environment in a hands-on, participative manner. Students who complete the class can immediately contribute to an organization's efforts in continuous improvement, whose principles are used by many leading organizations in all sectors to outpace competitors year after year. Prereq: Enrollment in MBA, WPMBA, MBLE, MHA, MPA ,or MCRP program.
MBA 6230 - Operations Management
How the operations function contributes to ensuring effective and efficient flow of materials and information within and outside the organization. Prereq: Enrollment in Executive MBA program or Working Professional MBA program; or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for 850. Repeatable to a maximum of 3 cr hrs. This course is progress graded.
BUSOBA 7265 - MBOE Creating and Managing Flow
This class will cover flow in both service and manufacturing environments. We will consider questions such as how to achieve patient flow in a hospital; and whether Materials Requirements Planning systems and flow processes can co-exist. Prereq: Enrollment in MBOE. Not open to students with credit for 845.
