Cynthia W. Turner, PhD, CPA, is an award-winning educator who currently serves as the assistant dean and chief diversity office at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business A widely sought-after speaker on the topics of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, Cynthia was the first African American woman to earn a PhD in accounting at The Ohio State University  (1996) and the first African American woman to be appointed to serve on the leadership team at Fisher (2019). 

As assistant dean and chief diversity officer, Cynthia’s strategic efforts have helped Fisher double external funding for scholarships and DEIB initiatives; facilitate a historic city partnership to support pre-collegiate programming for local high school students; develop programming to engage Fisher’s diverse alumni, including the Alumni of Color Network Weekend and the Women’s Leadership Symposium; and create new DEI course offerings. In 2023, she was recognized with several national awards for advancing diversity throughout her career, including a lifetime achievement award for advancing diversity throughout her career.

Cynthia has an MA and PhD in accounting from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business and a BS in accounting from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. She currently sits on the board of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio and the national board of Women for Economic and Leadership Development. Cynthia is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Association of Black Accountants. 

Donnell White is Senior Vice president and Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer where he is responsible for all of Huntington’s efforts to foster a culture of inclusion, advocate for equity, cultivate a sense of belonging for all colleagues across the company, and ensure Huntington is a leading employer in DEI.

White previously served as Senior Vice President and Regional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director. In this role he was instrumental in leading several strategies that are important to the bank, including driving engagement with our annual DEI Awards; deepening DEI on the regional level, with the expansion of regional BRG chapters across the footprint; and elevating Huntington’s brand nationally through various partnerships. White joined Huntington in 2021 with the merger of TCF National Bank, where he was Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer and Director of Strategic Partnerships.

White is an active member in the community. He serves on the of board member of the National Diversity Council, Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, and Arab American and Chaldean Council. In addition, Donnell serves on the Michigan Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) Leadership Council, Grow Michigan Board of Managers, Wayne State University President’s Community Advisory Group, Focus Hope Advisory Group, Coalition for Black and Jewish Unity Advisory Group, and the Michigan State Police Citizen’s Advisory Council. He is Board Trustee for Michigan Children’s Foundation, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Public Safety Foundation, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Foundation.

White earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State University. He is a Certified Diversity Professional through the National Diversity Council and The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business Executive Program. Donnell resides in Detroit, Michigan with his wife Gabrielle.

Nationwide Children's Hospital Tour

Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the largest and most comprehensive pediatric hospitals and research institutes in the United States. It is renowned for its comprehensive pediatric care, cutting-edge research, and commitment to improving children's health outcomes. 

On this tour, visitors will be introduced to two vital departments: The Simulation Center and Pharmacy. The Simulation Center showcases cutting-edge technology and expert training, ensuring healthcare professionals are prepared for any scenario. Meanwhile, the Pharmacy Department provides tailored medications for young patients, employing the latest advancements for optimal outcomes. Together, these departments exemplify the hospital's commitment to providing exceptional care and support to children and families, fostering hope and healing. 

Join COE for an exclusive learning experience focusing on these two department’s operations and continuous improvement efforts.

On this tour of NCH, participants will have the opportunity to: 

  • Tour Six simulation rooms designed closely match different hospital rooms, such as inpatient, outpatient, and operating rooms.
  • View surgical and medical skills lab that are used to practice procedural technique with instructors.
  • Tour of Pharmacy/operations management & robotics

Janet Berry DNP, RN, MBA, NEA-BC, CPPS, is the Vice President for the Center for Clinical Excellence at Nationwide Children's Hospital.  The Center for Clinical Excellence oversees, supports, and drives the following functions: a robust patient safety program; a clinical outcomes team dedicated to achieving best outcomes in patient care; an epidemiology team charged with developing, monitoring, and surveilling infection control and prevention practices; accreditation and regulatory organizational oversight and compliance; and a simulation team that creates safe learning environments for staff to enhance skills and test new processes outside of actually touching patients.  Janet received her Bachelor’s and Doctorate degrees in Nursing from The Ohio State University and her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Dayton. Janet is Board certified as an Advanced Nurse Executive and a Patient Safety Specialist. In addition to leading many Patient Safety and Quality programs at Nationwide Children's, Janet has extensive experience in operational leadership in clinical areas supporting the surgical needs of patients. 

Ryan S. Bode, MD, MBOE, LSSBB, Dr. Ryan Bode joined Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 2016 as Division and Section Chief of Hospital and Newborn Pediatrics. Dr. Bode successfully led the development of a comprehensive academic hospital medicine program including expansion of the team’s clinical scope and expertise, faculty recruitment more than doubling the size of the division, creation of an accredited fellowship program, and significant maturation in quality improvement and research including grant funding and publications. Dr. Bode recently transitioned the leadership of the division to focus on his role as Associate Chief Quality Officer within the Center for Clinical Excellence. In that role, Dr. Bode drives institutional quality improvement and clinical outcomes including oversight of NCH’s Clinical Pathway Program which aims to standardize care and promote high value care. Earlier this year, Dr. Bode was also named as Senior Vice Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at NCH and The Ohio State University. Dr. Bode completed medical school at The Ohio State University before completing his pediatric and chief residency at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. In 2020, he completed a Masters in Business and Operational Excellence at Ohio State.  Dr. Bode’s research and academic output has focused on quality improvement, clinical pathways, comparative effectiveness, and situational awareness/inpatient deterioration. 

Cheryl Camacho, MBA, EMT-P, CHSE, is the Director of Simulation and Outreach Education at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) in Columbus, Ohio. Ms. Camacho received her Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration and her Master’s in Business Administration both from the University of Maryland. Ms. Camacho is currently pursuing her PhD in Organizational Leadership and Strategy through Capella University. She holds a certification from the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. While maintaining daily operation, supporting our organization of over 16,000 employees, Ms. Camacho focuses on the strategic vision for educational delivery and methodology within the department. Under her leadership, the simulation team has improved educational programs across the NCH system focusing on collaboration and outcomes through quality improvement initiatives. In addition, she provides leadership for the departments immediate and long-term strategic goals, focusing on best outcomes for our patients. Ms. Camacho is also responsible for staff recruitment and retention, marketing, strategic planning, operational and fiscal planning within the department. Ms. Camacho currently serves as the Society of Simulation in Healthcare’s Chair of the Directors Section as well as a volunteer Accreditation Site Reviewer in addition to other roles within the society. In 2024, Ms. Camacho was awarded a Fellowship in Simulation to grow her in her position not only with the society but NCH.

Matthew Sapko, PharmD, MD, currently serves as Chief Pharmacy Officer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  Dr. Sapko completed his PharmD at the University of Pittsburgh. He then earned his Master of Health-System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University while completing his PGY1/PGY1 HSPAL residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. During his time at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, he has held many leadership positions including pharmacy clinical operations roles of Manager of Pharmacy Critical Care Services and Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services.  He is a member of and has served on Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OSHP) and American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists leadership committees.  Dr. Sapko was the recipient of the 2020 Timothy D. Moore Pharmacy Management Award from OSHP as well as a member of the Nationwide Children’s team achieving the 2018 OSHP Best Advancement Success Award.

Jenna Merandi, PharmD, MS, CPPS, is a Medication Safety Officer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She works closely with interdisciplinary teams and frontline staff to identify system-based interventions to prevent medication errors. Jenna provides strategy, innovation, and expanded views on safety (safety differently) to help lead the journey to best medication outcomes. Jenna serves as one of the co-leaders nationally for Proactive Safety through the Solutions for Patient Safety. Additionally, Jenna was the founder of the Children’s Hospital Association, Medication Safety Leaders Collaborative with the goal to share best practices for improving pediatric medication use outcomes.

This is a limited-capacity, in-person only event. Participants will be selected in coordination with COE board representatives from each member company. Selected participants will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to NCH and will be expected to abide by safety and security measures.
